Friends of the Library

There are two Friends of the Library groups. The first is "The Day Friends of the Library", which meet the 4th Monday of every month at noon. They have lunch and a program, and their president is Mary Lou Roark (886-5353). They support the library in various ways. For example, donating money for the Summer Reading Program.

Albert A. Bell, Jr., award-winning author of Young Adult and adult mysteries, will present a reading at the Hopkinsville/Christian County Library onWednesday, March 24, at noon in the Board Room.

Dr. Bell discovered his love for writing in high school with his first publication in 1972. He believes he is a storyteller more than a literary artist. He says, “When I read a book I’m more interested in one with a plot that keeps moving rather than long descriptive passages or philosophical reflection.” He writes books he would enjoy reading himself.

A native of South Carolina, Dr. Bell has taught at history at Hope College in Michigan since 1978. He holds a PhD from UNC-Chapel Hill, as well as an MA from Duke and an MDiv from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Bell’s published works include contemporary mysteries Death Goes Dutch and Kill Her Again. He’s also written historical fiction: Daughter of Lazarus and All Roads Lead to Murder. The Blood of Caesar was selected as one of the Five Best Mysteries of 20008 by Library Journal. The Secret of the Lonely Grave won a Mom’s Choice Silver Medal and the Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Award. His nonfiction works include Resources in Ancient Philosophy (co-authored with James B. Allis), Exploring the New Testament World and Perfect Game: Imperfect Lives. His articles and stories have appeared in magazines and newspapers from Jack and Jill and True Experience to the Detroit Free Press and Christian Century.
