Internet Access
The Hopkinsville Christian County Library offers free access to the Internet. We have 20 computers set aside for access to the Internet, plus computers for children with learning games, and computers for Genealogy and research. Computers come equipped with Microsoft Office software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel). All computers are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Who can use the Internet?
Anyone can use the Internet. To do so, you must do the following:If 18 years or older:
- Show library card at front desk.
- If not a current patron, apply for a library card or show a picture I.D.
- If from out of town, show current driver’s license or picture I.D.
If under 18 years old:
- Have parent or guardian sign an Internet agreement form. Get acknowledgement put in computer.
- If no library card, parent/guardian must be present to give consent.
- If under the age of 10, parent/guardian must remain with child at all times!
IF PATRON HAS HAS FINES OR OVERDUE MATERIALS, THEY MAY NOT USE THE COMPUTERS.
Computer usage is also limited to two persons from one family at a time.
Are there time limits for use?
There are no time limits unless there is a waiting list for computer use. Computer sessions are limited to one hour if there is a waiting list.How many sessions may I use per day?
You are limited to one session per day.Can I extend my time if I haven't finished my work?
Students working on home work may ask one of the staff for a time extension. Please note that all material not saved to a USB device prior to the end of a session will be erased and cannot be recovered.Is there a charge for printing?
Yes. Black & White prints are available for 10 cents per page.How can I save my work?
You will need to bring in a USB flash drive to save your work. Files cannot be saved directly onto the computers and any work not saved to a USB device will be lost at the end of a user’s session.Can I get access to a site that is blocked by the Internet filter?
If you are trying to access a site that is currently being blocked by the Internet filter, you may request it be un-blocked. Please give the staff your name, the site in question, and a brief description of the site. All submissions will be reviewed by the staff to see if the block will be lifted.Wi-Fi
Free wireless Internet access is available to library visitors using mobile computers (laptop or PDA) with Wi-Fi capability. Please ask the front desk for a password.
