How the Library Can Help Jump Start Your Family Research

Local libraries are now offering more and more services to help you discover your family history! A recent article by Sydney Smith, MLIS explores the significance of genealogy and the many ways that your local library may be able to assist you! Here are just a few ways we at Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library can help you navigate those frustrating brick walls that often plateau genealogy research:

  1. Digital Archives: You can access Christian County high school yearbooks, Kentucky New Era Obituaries, and Christian County Vital Statistics right here on our website
  2. Specialized Collection: Our genealogy collection includes materials and resources from 79 counties in Kentucky and 25 U.S. states with Christian County resources such as federal censuses, city directories, cemetery records, and court records
  3. Research Tools: Our collection also includes materials for getting started including our genealogy toolkit as well as books on utilizing digital resources to break down research barriers. You can also access digital databases including Fold3 and HeritageHub for free through our website and Ancestry.com is available on our computers at the library!

Come check out our collection and speak to our Genealogy Librarian about first steps in discovering your family history!
