In celebration of this year’s summer reading program “Unearth a Story,” Hopkinsville-Christian Co. Public Library is curating a time capsule to be opened a decade from now.

Jada Newell, Genealogy Librarian at HCCPL, said all are welcome to donate meaningful items to this project.

“We truly want this time capsule to reflect the spirit of our community,” she said. “Our goal is to preserve items that demonstrate what life was like in the Hopkinsville-Christian Co. area in 2026.”

To be included in the time capsule, items must be able fit in a small 2”x 2” x 2” box, which will be provided by HCCPL.

Newell offered a few ideas for things people might want in the capsule.

“Toys and trinkets are a great way to share information about today’s pop culture,” she said. “Family photos, drawings and handwritten letters are all ways to share memories of loved ones.”

Registration is required to contribute to the time capsule. To register, visit https://forms.gle/HQPNWkRArsWDKHkK8

The time capsule will be assembled, sealed and buried during a ceremony 11 a.m.-noon June 6 at HCCPL, 1101 Bethel St. The time capsule will be buried near the front of the building.
